Are You Overly Tired as a Family Caregiver?
One of the hazards of being a family caregiver is that you can feel exhausted or unable to sleep quite often. You might run into this problem for various reasons, but some of these strategies might be able to help you more than you might think.
Start an Exercise Program
If you’re not already exercising regularly, you should be. Exercise helps you to deal with stress, for one thing, but it can also help you to sleep better at night. When your body doesn’t have a chance to work off some excess energy, even if you don’t feel that you have excess energy, you wind up feeling restless. Talk with your doctor about whether or not you’re healthy enough to start a full-on exercise program immediately.
Get a Solid, Daily Routine in Place
Often, having a regular routine is difficult as a caregiver because you’re putting out fires left and right all day long. Do yourself a favor and establish both a morning and an evening routine that allows your body to know when it’s time to wake up and when it’s time to sleep. Part of that routine should include regular sleep and wake-up times that don’t change daily.
Practice Relaxation Activities
Relaxation activities, such as breathing exercises, meditation, and even yoga, can help your brain and body to let go of all the worries that keep you strung as tight as a bow. By giving your body a chance to remember how to relax, you reassure yourself that rest is something that you can allow yourself.
Talk to Your Doctor about Other Solutions
If you’re still having trouble sleeping even after trying some of these ideas, you might have a medical reason explaining why you’re unable to sleep well or feel exhausted. Your doctor can look at various tests and other symptoms and find a solution to help you. Once you know what you’re dealing with, you can find the right way to solve the problem.
Find the right combination to reduce exhaustion and sleeplessness.
